white scale

:?: Hello,
I have a white scale substance on the sides and bottom of my ingroud pool. The pool water is pefect now but had problems earlier. Our pool supply place told me this is a scale problem from when the water had to much ph or alk or metals in the water. They have a chemical solution you mix in your pool and then you can brush this scale off. Does this work it is pretty expensive chemical treatment but if it will work then it is worth it. Any other ideas?
Thanks, Joel

White scale is normally calcium carbonate for the most part.

You could try adjusting the alkalinity down to 0 mg/l. This is usually all that is required to make the scale come back into solution. It is a cheap solution as it only requires acid.

Once the calculated quantity of acid is added you simply brush the pool twice a day for a few days and you will most likely find the scale is gone within 24 hours. Then test the water again before adding anything else.
