LOwering Pool water level in the off season

What is a quick and efficient way to lower the too high water level in my winterized in-ground pool. Should I buy a submersible pump and place it in the water running it until the water level is at an acceptable level? With all the rain we've had the water level has really risen.

Open the main drain valve and let some water out that way.
