air bubbles in pool return water

someone closed my pool as a favor but did it wrong
i rehooked yup filter to reclose and i have weeker than ussual suction
ihave air bubbles coming out of pool returnwater and biggest problem when i shut off filter i have4 a huge backsurge of water that comes out of my skimmer like a geyser
please any help is appreciated

Check your piping, connections and pump basket for air leaks.

These leaks usually drip water when the pump is not running.
