Pump size ?

Postby doubleup21 » Sat 19 May, 2007 07:51

I just purchased a 18 round x54 agp.I have a 120sf cartridge filter. They gave me a 2hp 2 sp pump.I have a few friends that have pools. They are telling me that this pump is to big and i will be wasting money in electric bills and could damage the filter.I want the right pump, but i want it to be economical.
What do you think?
Thanks

I am new to this but according to endless study on the internet - and a guide on eBay of all places - your friends are right.

My understanding is that you want a 1 hp to 1.5 hp max. Anything larger pushes the water through the filter too hard/fast which is less useful for filtering and could damage the filter with the greater pressure?
