Filter Sand

Postby pie061 » Sun 20 May, 2007 14:57

I am attempting to find out how to change the filter sand. I have a Doughboy Media Master Series Model 0-7101-013. Can you give me the steps it would take to change out the sand in the filter.

Google it. I've heard it many times but I don't feel confident enough as to give you any procedure. But I thing it's like this:
You unscrew the muliport vlalve if you've got one, you take out the sand by vaccumming, puting the tank upside down or with a hose and then see if the laterals are ok (at the bottom of the tank) and replace the broken ones. Then, cap the pipe that goes to the laterals and fill half of the tank with water. After that, pour the sand slowly. Take out the cap from the pipe and screw the multiport valve again. Before using the filter again, backwash for about 5 mins and rinse for another 2.
NOTE: USE ONLY SILICA SAND WHICH IS SIZED CORRECTLY BY THE MANUFACTURER.
