An OTO chlorine test is only good to see if there is some chlorine in the water and is not good for an accurate reading of the amount of chlorine nor to find out if the chlorine is free or combined. Instead, a good test kit is the Taylor K-2006 that is at a good online price here or the TF100 test kit from tftestkits(dot)com here with the latter kit having 36% more volume of reagents so is comparably priced "per test".
The aforementioned K-2006 and TF100 tests use a FAS-DPD chlorine test that can measure accurately to within 0.2 ppm or 0.5 ppm depending on sample size, can measure Free Chlorine (FC) and Combined Chlorine (CC) separately, and can measure up to 50 ppm. These test kits also test for pH, Total Alkalinity (TA), Calcium Hardness (CH) and Cyanuric Acid (CYA).

You must check your swimming pool equipments if they are still functioning well. If not, i guess your need to change all your swimming pool equipments to maintain the clarity of your pool.

Swimming Pool Algae
I always thought that algae in water a good sign for a healthy water flora is. Living things, like algae, like to live in healthy places, with no harsh chemicals around, like chlorine. I wonder why a little algae bothers us so much. People are weird.
Hey, does anyone know about the service that this company - Ameraguard provides? (Spray-on coating?) I want to get it for my truck bed and boat, but would like to hear any and all experiences with it. Thanks!

It's a nice read. As far as I know algae develops when everything is not balanced. It might be that the water quality is not in good condition so you better check your filter. Exposure to the sun/light can be a cause to water algae too, if you can't cover the pool then you really need to clean it manually and regularly.

Swimming Pool Algae
Algae is a living aquatic creature that multiplies rapidly on warm sunny days. It enters the pool by wind, rain or even by contaminated swim suits or equipment. Algae can cloud and color the water and may also have an E-coli bacteria. Proper swimming pool cleaning and maintenance done on a weekly basis will be helpful.

Re: Swimming Pool Algae
E-coli has nothing to do with algae and it cannot reproduce in the pool. E-coli is found exclusively in the intestinal tract of mammals and can only be found in water that has been contaminated by fecal waste or poor personal hygiene.
