Hardness: 250
ALK: 120
pH: 7.5
Stabilizer: 40ppm
Total chlorine: 1.0ppm
free chlorine: zero
I have approx. a 12,000gal IG pool with an automatic chlorinator (frog system). The pool is always crystal clear, but I cannot get a free chlorine reading. I've shocked it 5 times according to pool "specialist" recommendations but nothing works. My last attempt was adding 6lbs. of dichlor shock but that only sailed my combined chlorine level sky high. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Cannot establish a "free chlorine" reading
Your CC's are 1 if your FC is zero and your TC is 1. You aren't shocking high enough for long enough to destroy the CC's.
I'm not familiar with using The Frogger but I read a lot of people have trouble with them.
With your CYA level you need to shock to 15 ppm chlorine.
Use 1 1/4 gallons of 12.5% pool store liquid chlorine or 3 1/2 gallons of regular Clorox to get your shock that high. Add a little more every day to keep it at that level for 2 or 3 days. You'll need about just a tad over 3 cups of 12.5% for every 2ppm that might drop overnight. 6 cups of Clorox for every 2ppm drop.
Run your pump 7/24.
After 3 days let your chlorine drop until it gets to 3-6ppm. You should see that you now have 0 CC's. Then try to maintain your FC at 3 - 6ppm.
