At what pool water temperature is algea impossible to grow? Is chlorine still required?

Algea growth is extremely slow at temperatures below 60 degrees F/ 15 degrees C. At these temperatures very little chlorine is needed.

If the pool water is algea free, the pool may require small doses of chlorine through the cold months, depending on the temperature and environmental conditions.
