Pressure in sand filter

I have a sand filter and the pressure only gets up to 5 psi. I've tried different gauges and they all read the same. I'm concerned that my filter may not be working properly. I'm getting a reasonably good flow of water back to the pool. Is 5 psi NORMAL for a sand filter (250 lbs of sand)?
