Sand filter seems to be running backwards?

I have a Proline sand filter and it seems to be running backwards. When I have it set on Filter it shoots water back into the skimmer. Can anyone help?

Skimmer to pump - pump tp filter - filter to return jet. That simple

I have a similar problem. When I run the filter I get sand in the pool. I checked the horizontal tube with the laterals and they are all intact. What else could be wrong ?

It could be a hairline crack that you missed when checking the stand and laterals. When the pump runs, there is enough pressure to open the crack and allow sand through.
