Brown stains in pool

Postby Danno » Mon 25 Jun, 2007 09:16

I have a 15 x 30 vinyl liner pool that is only 1 yr old. It was opened in April this year and I had no staining when opened, or after I added approximately 800 gallons of water from my well. About 2 weeks ago, I noticed a few brown stains along the vertical ribs of the pool. That is when I first checked on various sites for info about the stains. I tried rubbing a vit 'C' tablet on the stains and it did not do anything. I rubbed for a long time and noticed very little if any change in the stain I tried. Since that time, I am now seeing a little staining along the corner of the pool especially on the far side from the return line.

My PH is about 7.4, and my alkalinity is pretty high (160ppm). I am running the Nature2 system and have a clorine level less than 1.3ppm.

Any suggestions?

Rub with a chlorine tablet. If it takes care of it, then it sounds like black or just a dark green algae. It could be scaled over algae. Not sure which is worse, black algae or metal stains.

Ascorbic acid will clear up metal stains.
Chlorine will clear up organic stains.

I will try the chlorine tablet tonight.
