Pump part & function

Postby sparkwatercleaner » Tue 26 Jun, 2007 15:06

I just wanted to know what is a mechanical seal, what it does, why does it break if the pump runs without water & what happens if it is broken. Where is it located?
thanks in advance

The pump seal is what keep the water in the pump and out of the motor. Running your pump dry can burn up the seal as the water acts as a coolant and lubricant. If water is leaking out of the motor side of your pump, you have a bad seal.
