Pump keeps throwing the breaker

Postby reindeergal » Thu 28 Jun, 2007 07:29

Our pump is about a year old. This morning it didn't come on, we have a timer on it plugged into a GFI outlet. It looks like it tried to come on, the timer was tripped. My husband took an outdoor electrical cord to plug the pump in to another outlet, it tripped the breaker. It also tripped the breaker on the GFI outlet. We did have a heavy rain last night. Any ideas?

Is your pump motor exposed to the elements? Most likely there is water in your pump motor.

If the GFI breaker AND a standard breaker trip, you have a dead short somewhere and should not use the pump until things dry out. The breakers are popping to protect you, and your pump motor from damage.

Maybe bring the pump inside and get out the hair dryer. ;)
