Pump Tripping Breaker After Manual Air Relief Valve Failure

Postby FARMAN33 » Fri 20 Dec, 2019 15:32

Pumps and equipment have been working fine. Go out a few days ago and everything is quiet. Looking over the equipment, I see that I had a catastrophic failure of the manual air relief valve on top of my cartridge filter housing. Replaced this today. Went to engage pumps and "click" nothing. Forgot to prime equipment. Now that everything is primed, the pump will run for 3-5 seconds and trip breaker. Impeller is free and spinning. When pump tries to start, it pulls water in.

Did the pump run without water and burn up when valve blew? Is there a shut off when pool loses prime? Hopefully, I'm missing something easy but I fear otherwise.
