Do I need to backwash my filter?

Leslies Pool Supplies told me I need to backwash my filter. I have a Hayward SwimClear Multi-Element Cartridge Filter which says it does ever require backwashing - any ideas?

If you have a backwash facility you can use it but most cartridge filters are just taken out cleaned and replaced
Get a spare in case you damage it
