New Intex salt water pool

Ok filled with of course rusty water from fire dept truck., ran filter 24 hours, ran swg for 7 hours no reading for chlorine!!!! i HAVE 6,400 GALLONS OF UNTREARED WATER!!!!!. So i used my hot tub chlorine to get levels up to par....ph is 7.4 alkalinity is high 300....question is how long should it have taken to get up to chlorine levels JUSt with the swg? I didnt dare wait longer.....manual says run for 2 hours a day is all and run filter pump as much as possible? HELP whats the right answers here
