My Pool: Want to build paddling pool for the girls, would like advice,

New pool,

Postby Shiredevon » Sat 09 May, 2020 18:15

I've promised to build a paddling pool for the girls, it will be 2700X 2700 X600 deep, I was thinking I'll build it using hollow blocks, I might as well install a simple filter, can anyone advise me where to position the intake and return? As I'll need to build the pipes in, welcome any advise, thanks in anticipation,

Position the skimmer so that the pool when full is half way up the skimmer opening. The return would be on the opposite end about 150mm lower than the water level
When using hollow blocks use rebar and fill with concrete to prevent the blocks from moving
Search "Hollow Block Swimming Pool" for ideas
This link https://mypooldirect.co.uk/store/diy-sw ... ng-system/ gives an indication of what I mean

I thought I just build a pipe in at the correct height, does it need some kind of special opening?, I'm in the Philippines so materials are very limited but I'm sure I can make something if needed, can't find anything available to buy here, thanks

Is it not possible to purchase online
A skimmer allows water and debris into an opening and pulls it out of the bottom. A pipe would suck air in and stop the pump. To make it work you would have to put a bend on it and dip it into the water about 150mm

Ah okay, how about if I turned the pipe upwards at 90 and cut a slot in it, but had the outlet level say 200 below water level?, would that work?

Or just have the outlet below surface level and skim the surface with a net?

That will work but you will have to maintain the water level above it
Why don't you look at some images of skimmers and see if you can manufacture something that would do the same job

One last question, as I'm putting in a filter I may as well try to treat the water as well, can you advise the best way, I see you can get a device that floats and takes tablets?, would that work in such a small pool?, I'm thinking it's not gonna hold much more than 200 cubic feet?,

You can buy floating chlorine dispensers but you are better off dosing with plain bleach (sodium hypochlorite)
The bleach must be additive and perfume free
When you get closer to using it Pool Maths will tell you how much to put in

Okay po now I have a pool built of hollow blocks, it's been rough cemented using Sahara supposedly a water proofing agent, what now, can I just tile it? For sure it's gonna leak, I mean do all pools leach a bit and it's okay?, very little here in the way of specific products, I'm guessing if I paint something on it I can't tile after?, hoping for some guidance, thanks

Seeing as it's small it would probably be easiest to smooth it out with plaster and use a rubberised paint
This would be quick and easy to do and maintain
No pools shouldn't leak
