changing chlorine to salt
changing chlorine to salt
Can any of you please give me some ideas of how I can upgrade my pool chlorine system to one using salt? I live in the Caribbean and chlorine down here in the islands isnt exaclty cheap. I am thinking of using one of the new salt types of systems. Thank you
what type of filter for salt system
Thanks for your reply! You mean all I need to do is change the filter? Can I use the same pump. Which type of filter system would you recommend? Our pool is 30 ft. x 15.
Thanks Quirin

There is no equipment change for switching from manually adding chlorine to generated chlorine. It's still a chlorine pool...
system
I am sure there is an automated system where you can just add salt into the pool instead of the chlorine tablets. I have freinds who had that system installed. It also monitors everything. I would like to install one myself???
Any ideas...

There are many different brands of saltwater chlorine generators (SWG) you can find on the web. However, they ALL generate chlorine. There is no such thing as a pool that has only salt for disinfection. The salt is used along with a device that is typically plumbed into the pressure line after all other equipment and this device uses electrolysis to convert the chloride in salt water into chlorine gas that instantly dissolves in the water to form hypochlorite -- yes, the same hypochlorite that is in bleach, chlorinating liquid, and in fact is produced from ALL sources of chlorine.
You can only install this yourself if you can install/modify pool plumbing and electrical (the unit is powered by electricity).
I'm sure some folks here can tell you about their favorite brands. Some of these brands include AutoPilot Systems Pool Pilot, Goldline Controls Aqua Rite and many others.
I should add that there IS an inexpensive SWG for above-ground pools (just do an Internet search for "Intex chlorine generator"). That would be very easy to install -- no plumbing or special electrical needed (you do still need to plug it in, however).
