new pool set up

I have a new pool a neighbor gave us who is moving and I need some help with figuring out the pump, filter and skimmer set up and if they all work. The filter is a doughboy sand filter. I am having a tough time and now my pool probably needs to be shocked while I can't figure out how to make it work.

Any help would be appreciated,
