Under what circumstances is chlorine bleach like Clorox, usable as a substitute for pool store purchased tablets?

Chlorine is chlorine is chlorine is chlorine. It does the same thing as chlorine.

The liquid is even better than the tablet because the tablet over time will raise the CYA level because of the stabilizer that is in the tablets/pucks.

There is no stabilizer in clorox PLUS it's cheaper.

Hope this answered your question.

As stated above, it's not a substitute. It's the same thing...just a liquid instead of a solid.

It's like saying "Under what circumstances is Amoco gasoline usable as a substitute for Shell gasoline"?

OK not exactly, but you get the point.
