SUCTION PROBLEMS! PLEASE HELP ASAP

whenevr i turn on my g.e. pool pump for my inground pool, i usually have half suction from the skimmer and half from the pool drain, but early this week i backwashed and now barely getting suction from my skimmer. On first start it will work fine but then maybee 5 seconds of perfect function a rush of air/bubbles comes in and it cant maintain pressure. im not sure what happened. but all i know is that a snake didnt do anything, and rushing water didnt help either.
