Algae spots on floor

Postby katheguard33 » Fri 10 Aug, 2007 09:46

We have a salt system pool. Filter broke and it took a week to get it fixed. In the meantime we had a serious algae problem. Now the water is clear but about 20% of the pool is covered in algae spots. They will note off with repeated shocks, algae treatment, brushing, vacuming ect. Any suggestions?

Are you sure they are algae spots and not maybe metal stains that precipitated out when you shocked the pool with chlorine since that raises the pH? If the stains are truly organic, including algae, then putting a Trichlor puck on them will fade them, BUT you can only do this with a plaster/gunite pool surface, NOT with vinyl. If the stains do not fade, then they are probably metal and a combination of ascorbic acid treatment combined with a metal sequestrant would be appropriate (when using the ascorbic acid, the FC level needs to be < 1 ppm so to prevent algae add PolyQuat 60 algaecide before lowering the FC and doing the treatment which requires the SWG to be off).
