No filter tank pressure

Postby smichaelb » Sat 01 Sep, 2007 00:06

My filter tank is not keeping its pressure up. With the pump on, it rises up then suddenly drops to zero. After about 10 seconds, it rises again only to drop to zero again after reaching a certain level. This just continues on so I have had to turn the pump off.

This all began after I removed the large filter cartridge for cleaning (turning off the pump before removing the metal filter cover). I replaced the filter, the metal filter cover, and started the pump.

Do I have serious problem or is this just a procedural fix? HELP!

check pump lid for being on tight, lube o-ring on the bottom of pump lid.
Something is sucking air and its not the filter it would leak water.
check debris in pump basket
check impeller
check skimmer

Thanks. I turned the pump on this morning just to see. Increditably enough, everything is working! The tank is keeping its pressure and I have done nothing. I have since emptied all baskets of leaves but am not sure how to check the impeller or what it is.

you can check impeller for debris by taking out pump basket and putting your finger down inside small hole at bottom. You should be able to turn it freely. In most cases you would feel small debris.
