Sand Coming Out When Bacwashing

Postby peterh » Tue 19 Feb, 2008 15:26

I was backwashing my filter at the end of the 2007 season and usually run the hose out to the street. When I walked out there to roll the hose back up, I noticed filter sand on the road. What could cause this?

Sand in the waste water is usually a result of one of the following:
  1. the pump is too powerful for the filter (or the filter is too small ...)
  2. the filter was overfilled and the excess sand is coming out
  3. the sand level is too low and the water flow is easily lifting the reduced sand bed
