Algae Growth

Postby Doug » Wed 11 May, 2005 11:27

I have heard that algae will not grow in the pool without sunlight. Is this true? So if I leave my winter cover (Black vinyl) on, I should not have algae growth until I am ready to open it?

Any help would be appreciated.

Don't trust a single method. When you close, be sure all the chemicals are balanced, the pH is right and add a "winter" algicide. If you have a mesh type cover, another addition of algicide about half way through the winter is advisable. I hope that works for you.

That sounds like a great idea. We have had so much trouble with algae this year due to the cover no doing its job! We use the Carribean Clear system and once we get rid of this damn algae :x the water will be crystal clear the rest of the summer.

WE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND WERE TOLD TO BALANCE PH AND ALK AND SHOCK AFTER THE DANGER OF WATER GETTING ABOVE 68 F (IN TN WE DO THIS MID NOV) AND RE-OPEN BEFORE THE WATER REACHES 68 F
WE HAVE HAD NO PROBLEM SINCE! :D
