I have just purchased a new Hayward 1600 superpump. I disassembled the impeller and housing. I tried to put the new shaft seal (the one with the spring) on the new one exactly the way the old was, but the new seal will not go all the way down on the shaft. I tried to look at the picture on hayward website but it is no help. Any ideas?

Buy a new "Pac-Seal" # 201 seal and try again. Consider replacing the diffuser gasket as well.

Buy a new "Pac-Seal" # 201 seal and try again. Consider replacing the diffuser gasket as well. Lubricating the impeller shaft with saliva helps a great deal also, but be careful you don't get any on the seal's lapped surfaces. Smooth out any impeller shaft irregularities with a very fine abrassive prior to putting on the new seal. Good luck.
