chlorine dust, algae or sand at bottom of pool

Postby jetmech14 » Tue 01 Apr, 2008 12:04

I've had our above ground pool 4 years now, the end of the second year the dust, algae, sand ,started showing up at the bottom. thought it was mustard algae did the yellow out treatment, no help,, shocked pool every 12 hours for 4 days the stuff turned white at the bottom, no longer looking like sand but after vaccuming to waste it was back in a few days, changed sand in filter twice, all laterals were good,, finally bought a new filter and pump put zeolite instead of sand still there. always seems to show up faster if pump is running. have been using a calcium hypochlorate shock,,,could this be leaving that residue on the bottom,, i'm going to start using the sodium di chlor shock to see if a difference is made.

Yes this can leave dust. Could be your problem. Stop using it for awhile and see if it comes back.
