filter dumped sand

not my pool but the owner knows little about it so i thought i would ask.

when he turned on filter for 1st time today it dumped most or all the sand in the pool.

surely you can't just vacume it up...lol. i do know he ran it for a few hours tonight. and good news is it didnt blow-up.

thought the problem was rare but saw a few threads along the same lines. a moderater can delete this thread.
