Possible Clogged Pool Lion Heads?

Postby SirJOW » Tue 20 May, 2008 16:18

I have a new pool that has 3 lion heads on one of the pool's walls that empty into the pool. All 3 heads used to work with about the same amount of water pressure.

After a few weeks the "far one" got APPARENTLY clogged up and had much lower water pressure coming out than the other 2. It was well passed the time to clean the pool and filters so I did that and it spontaneously started working fine again after everything was clean and the pump was turned on again. This head went through cycles of this through the next weeks where it would be APPARENTLY clogged one day and the next it wasn’t. Now what has happened is the closest head seems to be "permanently" clogged (about 80%) with the other 2 working fine at all times.

It doesn't matter if I clean the filters or throttle up the volume on those heads that first head does not increase its water flow. The heads are fed by (at least for the first few feet after the head) about 1/2" flexible plastic tubing.

What can I do? Is there something that can be used to unclog (IF it is indeed a clog)? The pool equipment is at least 40 feet away from these heads and the piping is buried pretty deeply.

Thank you for any help you may be able to offer!

Not very easily...they're pretty much grouted in, however, I can get to the end of the pipe as it is sticking through the mouth part. I can get to it without removing the head.

Thanks for the reply!

About 1/2" clear plastic tube inside diamater. The exterior is about 3/4".
