amazing results with 36W UV sterilizer in fish pond

Postby steve haigh » Mon 26 May, 2008 21:16

i just put a 36W UV sterilizer in my fishpond (about 2000ltrs of water i think). it was pea soup green when i installed it. i though i would see what happened but didn't really expect it to help that much.

anyhow, now its 4 days later and quite clear, the algae seems to be dead. its not clean like a swimming pool of course, but pretty damn good.

so, these things are cheep on ebay. i'm thinking of buying 2 more units and running them with their own low power pump (maybe 1/2 HP) for 24hrs/day.

any thoughts about this?

thx steve

They are a good addition to chlorine, but you cannot use them on their own because they don't leave residual, and consequently don't kill viruses and bacteria as fast as chlorine does.
