Vacumm settings and Chlorine

Postby Jenny Salmon » Sun 07 May, 2006 07:16

I have an above gound pool. and I wanted to know what the pump needs to to be turned to when vacumming the pool? Does it need to be on waste? Also, our pool holds 25,000 gallons of water and is a 33' daimeter round pool, and I have shocked it and added clarifier, but every time I check it everything test good accept the free chlorine. It keeps showing I don't have any. I even put the stabilizer and conditioner in it. I'm using the chlorine tablets in the skimmer. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Please help?

You leave the multiport valve on filter when vacuuming. If you set it to waste, you will pump the water out of the pool and down the drain. After vacuuming backwash and rinse the filter to get rid of the vacuumed up dirt and debris.

If you can't get a chlorine reading you need to shock the pool again until you can measure the level. New water or newly opened pools often need large amounts of chlorine to get rid of contaminants even when the water appears to be clear and clean.
