"flying ants"

Postby tpr2nurse » Thu 24 Jul, 2008 17:03

I have hundreds of critters in my above ground pool that look like black ants w/wingsor termites. The body of the "ant" has 2 sections and it can fold into itself to look like a tiny circular shape. I have seen them drop into the pool, but I think they may originate from the ground. They seem to become more prevalant after a rain or after my husband cuts the grass. We live in central GA just south of Atlanta.
Does anyone know a name or species and how to get rid of them? Thanks

I have searched the net profusely and find out very little about the flying fire ants. We also live in GA near Stone Mountain. We see the ants on a hot & humid day after big rains.

We put out lots of fire ant killer but no help. It is definitely not termites and we didn't have problems with fire ants until we got our pool.

I would love to know answers too.
