Pool with oxzonator
Pool with oxzonator
We just moved to a new house with a pool which was filled with dark green slime and leaves. We drained the pool, cleaned it out and filled it. We added some powdered chlorine to start but then switched to the ozonator after a few days. The pool is now totally green. What should we do? Pool guys not very helpful!
Even with an ozonator you still need to use chlorine. Ozone simply allows you to use less chlorine. You need to brush and shock the pool to kill all the algae. You can continue to use the ozone but you need some chlorine in the pool to prevent more algae breakouts.

Thanks, I did shock the pool and use an algaecide. It looks good now and will continue to use chlorine as well as the ozonator. What about bromine? I read that it could be used instead of chlorine when you have an ozonator?
Yeah it is fine to use bromine. Bromine is just much more expensive but is not as irritating. If you are switching to bromine make sure there is no chlorine in the pool before making the switch. Just test your levels until your chlorine reaches 0.
