We are getting a pool which will use a salt generator for the sanitizer.
The water in our area is extremely hard and WILL leave white calcium deposits.
When we fill the pool I was considering using a portable water softener to fill a % of the water volume in an attempt to lower the total hardness. (I understand that we need to aim at around 250ppm and no lower)
Would this be an OK thing to do? If so would the softened water effect my saline level?
Thanks for any advise!
New Pool and Living in a Very Hard Water Area
Yes that would be fine to do and the bare minimum calcium hardness you can go to is 150ppm for plaster pools and around 100 for vinyl lined pools. A lower calcium hardness level is better for salt water generators because it will slow the calcium buildup in the cell that produces the chlorine which will extend the life of the cell.
