winter cover

I have a 28 foot above ground pool. We also have a lot of trees. Every winter, sticks from the trees puncture holes in the plastic winter cover making it impossible to get the water off the cover so we can remove the cover. I pump the water off the top, but pool water comes up from the holes flooding the cover again. I have been looking at the mesh covers, but they do not say if they will hold up to sticks falling from the trees. Maybe it doesn't matter if they make holes in the cover? Any suggestions?
