Above ground pool walls buckling

Postby Dan » Wed 10 May, 2006 15:45

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I purchased a home last november with a 21ft. round above ground pool that hadn't been maintained for two years. The pool was full of leaves and branches and I had no choice but to drain it to clean it. So I did and was very happy to find the liner in good condition after cleaning it. The problem is that when I went to fill the pool up again the wall in two adjacent panels has begun to buckle inward when the pool reached about half full. The liner is pulled very tight in the same area. I am concerned the wall may buckle further or that the liner might tear. The temperature out when filling it was cool 50's and 60's and the water is cold going in. Should I continue filling it or drain again to try something different?
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Buckled walls - the liner is your culprit

As a general rule of thumb, once you drain a pool the liner must be replaced - they shrink and its rare if ever that they can be reused (the whole thing must be kept moist the entire time) This is probably why your walls are buckling, the liner is pulling on them because it shrunk. Save yourself a headache, buy a new liner and start over.
