heater leaking water

Postby renee » Thu 08 Jan, 2009 16:01

I drained my pumps and filter before leaving for a vacation. When I returned and started everything back up, my pool heater is now leaking. Before I call a technician, is there anything you can tell me?

DID YOU HAVE A HARD FREEZE? IF SO, THE HEATER MAY HAVE FREEZE DAMAGE. IF SO A TECH MAY BE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE EXCHANGER IN THE HEATER...THEY AIN'T CHEAP

While freeze damage may be possible it also possible it is condensation. If you try to fire a gas heater up with icy cold water it will condensate and appear to be leaking until the water gets up to 60 or so. Different heaters will condensate differently so 60 is kind of a general temp.
