Our pool was recently drained to instal a double-drain system. While empty two 12inch diameter raised delaminated "bubbles" were found on the bottom. (One in the shallow end and one in the deep. They sound hollow when you rap on them. They are darker than the surrounding plaster and the pool company says that's because water has leaked behind them.)
My pool company says that they are too large to patch successfully. (The pool has been replastered once 10 years ago.) They said they could do the job for $750 but could offer no guarantee and are really discouraging that route.
Instead they want to take off the old plaster down to the gunite and replaster all for $5600.
Are patch jobs feasible? How long might they last?
Does the bid sound reasonable for replastering the entire pool?

Patch large delaminates or replaster pool?
inch areas is not alot and patches can easily be performed successfully. be aware that the patches won't match the existing plaster color. check the rest of the plaster by rubbing with a hammer. the plaster is delaminated from draining. whatever you do, do it fast and refill asap.
Patch large delaminates or replaster pool?
Thanks Geeman, but the delaminating areas are 12 inches in diameter, not just "inches". Is it still okay to patch them? The pool has been drained for almost 2 weeks.
Does the estimate for replastering a 20' x 40' pool sound in the ballpark?
