Leak when Filter is Running

Postby bcfrank38 » Fri 29 May, 2009 16:10

I have an in ground pool with a sand filter. The pool looses approximately 1/4 inch of water every 3-4 hours but only when the pump is running. When the pump is off, all of the water stays in. Any ideas?

Hi,

The first thing that comes to mind is a problem with the multiport valve and it's allowing some water to go out the backwash line when the system runs. Are you able to check the BW line to see if water is coming out when the system is running?

If there isn't water leaking at the BW, check around the equipment for water. If possible, check around the pool for wet ground that might indicate a leak.

Good luck with it and hope the leak is above ground!

like said before above, can you see where the water goes when backwashing? if your spider gasket in multiport valve is bad - thin/torn it will allow water to leak out the backwash pipe when running.

the spider gasket is around $10-$15 at most & is not hard to replace. basically take out all screws at the top of lid, lift off multiport top & there sits the spider gasket. remove & replace and put back together.
