Pool pump.....honestly

Okay, just to let you know I am ticked-off.

I just wish, I could find what I want. I can, BUT, I am not going to pay the price they want for it! Why are 1/2 motors more then 1hp!! I do know business, supply and demand, BUT....come on! I am talking energy use........over powered crap!

I guess I will have to buy a 1 hp unit and stick on speed controler to lower the flow.

I thought automotive was a bad business.

where are you getting this info from?

pool store, poolman, internet?

you can find different brands & prices on the internet & the smaller the size the cheaper they are.
example:
whisperflo pumps here

are you installing it or someone else?

if they are installing it ask them to explain how they are charging you=pump-price, parts, labor etc.

Its not too hard to find a GOOD 1/2hp pump that will outperform a 1hp pump. That number alone is quite misleading.

Look for an SF on the pump label. 1hp pump with a SF of 1 will be a 1hp pump. If the SF is 1.5 then it is actually a 1.5hp pump but rated as 1hp. Don't ask me to explain.

If your pump has a "closed faced" impellor, it will outperform the same rated pump with an "open faced" impellor.

There are also different sizes or "frames" of pumps. A 56 frame pump for instance will usually be better then a 48 frame pump.
