Will not opening my pool damage it?

Postby Guest » Tue 16 Jun, 2009 12:46

I have an inground pool that I do not want to open this summer. It was winterized in October. Can the pool be damaged if it's not opened? Would it need to be re-winterized?

When the temperature rises in the water, algae production would rise sharply and the pool will gradually come to resemble a bog. Lots of insekts etc. will live in the water and the pool sides and bottom are likely to be damaged by algae etc.. But tell me first what type of pool you have?

I am in a similar boat. Because we're going to be away most of the summer we would like not to open the pool. Would it be sufficient if I got someone to regularly monitor the chlorine level and maintained it at 4 (add liquid chlorine if necessary).

1) The size of our pool in gallons - 25,000
2) The type filter cartridge
3) IG (in ground)
4)Vinyl
5) Pump 3450 RPM, 1.5kW, HP2
6) Filter: Sta Rite Model: S8M150; Max workg pressure 50 psi;Filteration 450 sq ft; 125 GPM
7) Location: Ontario, Canada
