DE in pool

Hello to all, I'm new here and hope someone can answer my question. I have a Hayward DE filter size EC-40. Above ground pool. At night when I turn on the pool light, there is a lot of small white particulate circulating in the pool. You can't see it in the daytime. I have taken the filter apart and could not find a bad gasket or rips in the media tubes. I'm not sure if it's DE in the pool or not ,but what else could it be and how can I check it out and fix the problem? Thanks.
