The chlorine in my pool is really high. Off the charts high and there hasn't been any chlorine in the pool for 2 days. And the ph and acid are really low. Any thoughts ????

Sounds like overuse of Trichlor pucks/tabs. The Cyanuric Acid (CYA) level may be very high so the chlorine is taking longer to break down from sunlight -- either that or you've got cloudy days or the pool is covered. You can add pH Up (Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda) to raise both the pH and Total Alkalinity (TA) if both are low. Read the Pool School to learn more about how to manage your pool and also get yourself a good test kit, either the Taylor K-2006 you can get at a good online price here or the TF100 from tftestkits.net here with the latter kit having 36% more volume of reagents so is less expensive per test.

CHLORINE LEVEL HIGH, IT IS THE END OF SUMMER WE HAVE BEEN USING TABS ALL SUMMER OF COUSE STABILIZER AKA "CYA" IS HIGH NO PROBLEM . WHAT IS THE HIGH CHLORINE LEVEL?? AND OTHER READINGS?? YOU DID NOT SAY. YOU GOT TO GIVE THE COMPLETE PICTURE. USE "AQUA CHECK TEST STRIPS WITH THE YELLOW CAP. IF CHLORINE IS BOTHERING YOU ADD SALT TO THE WATER TO STAY STOPS ITS EFFECTS ON YOU AND ENJOY THE POOL. HIGH CHLORINE IS ONLY A PROBLEM "IF " IT BOTHERS YOU. SALT WILL CAUSE THE EFFECTS OF HIGH CHLORINE LEVELS TO NOT EFFECT YOU AND CAUSE THE WATER TO BE ALGAE RESISTANT NOT TO MENTION NO MORE BURNING EYES OR ITCHY SKIN. 1500PM - 2500 PPM EACH BAG
40LBS EQUALS APROX 200PPM. MORTEN SALT.COM IT IS REALLY SIMPLE. THE SUMMER WATERS NEED CHLORINE AND YOU DID YOUR JOB YOU JUST NEED A BUFFER.
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO JUST LOWER THE CHLORINE ADD AMMONIA. AMMONIA KILLS CHLORINE.ONE GALLON WILL DEFINETLY KI;; THE CHLORINE LEVEL AND GIVE IT SOME HOURS (4-6)TO RE-SET. ALAN

Alan,

Please stop using all caps in all of your posts. It is annoying and hard-to-read. Also, salt is not the answer. It will not make chlorine more effective when the CYA level is too high. It will only be easier on the eyes, but not by much (we tried 1500+ ppm salt last season and it wasn't much different -- we didn't have problems at lower salt levels but wanted to see how higher salt levels felt).
