Salt Water System - Is it beneficial

Postby Guest » Mon 31 Aug, 2009 14:22

Hello,

I am having my pool replastered, it is 35,000 gallons and I was wondering if I should change it to a salt water system. I have only heard good things about it, but wanted to see if anyone had any ideas to share.

Thanks

Salt Water System - Is it beneficial

At the YMCA we have an in-line salt system with a Chloramatic SWG cell. Members do say that the water feels better and softer. You're still using chlorine, it's just through the salt, not actually adding chlorine to the pool.

On the downside of in-line cells, you run a chance of leaks in the pipes which over time will crust over with salt. Also it may destroy any kind of decorative rocks or fixtures around the pool because salt is caustic.

There are machines online like Chlorine Genie that you may want to look into. These are about the size of a dishwasher and you simply add the salt to the machine and it makes the chlorine for the pool. No need to add bags of salt into the pool. Keep the readings the same as a regular pool.
