have a 16X36 inground pool i would like to change from chlorine to salt ,not sure how to do this the pool has a hayward pump and sand filter :?

This is not like switching from granulated to pucks.
Basic advice would be: Get serious and do your own homework.
Asking here for the whole scoop is like asking for a best floor plan for your new house or what sports car to buy. (If you do not want to bother to spend time do not ask us to write you an essay).
I am sure, there is plenty of salesman with detailed info on the subject.
Last thing you want is to follow directives of some unknown stranger and than blame him for a failure.
