alum use with cartride filter

I have a hayward cartridge filter the water was cloudy so the pool store told me to use alum now i can't get it out my filter doesn't backwash or vacume to waste and it seems to blow right throw the filter now it doesn't even settle the water just stays white HELP will this ever go away
