Pump won't stay primed when on skimmer

Postby WilburFW » Fri 14 May, 2010 21:45

Recently backwashed our filter. After doing so, pump will only stay primed when on bottom drain. If you move to both bottom and skimmer or just skimmer, basket goes dry and then will eventually fill for a minute or so and then drain again. Any ideas?

Check the skimmer weir door. Sometime they will stick and prevent water from entering into the skimmer.

Good advice. Happens so often but pool owners tend to overlook it because they think something more serious is going on.

If the door flaps freely however your line maybe obstructed. Possibly just by debris. You can loosen that by getting a product called Drain King. Attach it to the garden hose and stick it down your skimmer line. It's pretty effective.
