moving the pump

Hi. We are adding on to our deck and to make it easier to reach the filter for backwashing, etc, we moved the pump/filter further away from the pool by adding on hose from the intake and more pvc pipe from the filter. Now we can't get any intake or outflow from the pump. Is there a solution to this problem or are we going to have to move the filter back? the filter is coming on (getting power). It just doesn't seem to be sucking or releasing water. It is a sand filter
