CYA problem

Postby italyhound » Thu 01 Jul, 2010 14:42

I have 2 questions.

My CYA level checked last sunday was 40 and I am trying to raise it to 80. I have a SWG driving acid demand and keeping my TA on the higher side at 130.

I added enough CYA to bring the level to about 70 (according to the bottle). I bought a kit from tftestkits and the cya level today is 40 (twice) so I brought it to Leslie's and they also got 40. The guy said I need to wait a week before testing CYA adjustments. This doesn't make much sense to me.

Is there something that could be depleting my CYA? I want to be careful about adding more since from what I know getting the levels down requires draining water - a major pain in the neck for me.

Could there be something that masks a correct level? My current chemistry is :

TC 12 (I over did it after a big storm when TC went to near zero)
CC 0.5
ph 7.7
CH 220
TA 130
CYA 40
temp 78

Thanks for any assistance

The title of the thread is incorrect

It should read CYA problem and how my coffee board ID got in there is beyond me  but...
