Lower pump pressure
I just had a new main drain installed, and when the pump was turned on i lost 6 psi , it used to run at 18psi and now runs at 12psi, is this normal with installing a new main drain?

What was replaced? Cover, pipe, etc.
A more restrictive cover could lower the pressure but I doubt by that much. More than likely, the work caused some debris to clog the pump impeller and/or pipe.

Just the cover was replaced, and new a pool finish, marquis exposed aggregate pool finish. so you think they could half clog the pipes?
Lower pump pressure
It's possible. That stuff can get in the pipes if the installer is not careful.
